Commercial Photography – what is it? It is probably best defined as any photography to which money exchanges hands. In this light money could be paid for the subject of the photograph or the photograph itself. Wholesale, retail, and professional uses of photography would fall under this definition. Too Suggestive to Show

While No One’s Watching’ is a body of work that evokes the genre of fashion photography to investigate ideas and issues surrounding the notion of the gaze and particularly the female gaze. Employing a cinematic aesthetic, and an unelaborated narrative, these images present an idealised instant: the pinnacle of the action, the clearest facial expression or the perfect composition.

The objectification of the male characters within this work importantly seeks to establish a relationship between the image and the viewer, a relationship that invites the viewer to continue the fantasy.
This body of work was my final degree project at Thames Valley University Reading. Through this body of work I questioned the notion of the reversed gaze, in contemporary fashion advertising, and through my research of this subject I looked at many other relevant issues concerning the world of advertising and sexually charged imagery. I found myself asking the question ‘Does sex sell’? we only need look at recent advertising campaigns from fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada to name but a few, also the images of photographers Stephen Klein, and Bruno Dyan, to see that sexually charged imagery sells a product. Suggestions of ‘gang rape’ ‘voyeurisim’, and ‘sexual dominance’ are the focal point of many advertising campaigns, but is this wrong? or are the photographers and creative directors just giving the public/the consumer what they want? and tapping into many of our hidden fantasies or taboo desires?

Model Photography – How Perfect Makeup Can Bring Beauty To Your Shots!

A fashion photographer photographs models of all age groups, day in and day out. Did you know, it is not just photography that makes a good fashion photograph? Make up, and the elegance of the model of course, are equally important in a fashion photo shoot, if not more. When any of these elements of photography, model quality and make up quality are substandard, the resulting image would be a substandard image. The photographer needs to concern himself with elements such as the lenses and the cameras used, the background, the composition and the lighting. Those are his areas of expertise. The model needs to show up fresh and radiant for the shoot. Finally the make up artist has to work towards covering up the model’s bad negative qualities and enhancing his or her positive features.
